چکیده

During the electrochemical analysis or disposal of most of phenolic compounds, insulated polymeric substrates are created and cover the electrode surface. This can cause the signal current to decay over time, which is called electrode fouling or electrode passivation. This paper describes a model based on the potential drop across the fouling layer that is helpful for deeper understanding of the mechanism of electrode fouling/passivation. Copper deposition and a controlled fouling process were used to verify this model and quantitatively determine the potential drop. This model successfully fitted the experimental

Potential drop based model to analyze electrode passivation by fouling from phenolic compounds

Dielectric interface would be formed on the electrode surface during the analysis or disposal of many phenolic compounds due to electro-polymerization. This could cause electrode passivation, also called electrode fouling, which is indicated by the continuously decaying current signal. This paper proposed a model based on the potential drop across the fouling layer, which is helpful for deep un...

Oxidation of chlorophenols on Pt electrode in alkaline solution studied by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic electrolysis, and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry*

Potentiodynamic investigations on a platinum electrode show that oxidation of phenol, monochlorophenols, dichlorophenols, 2,3,6-, 2,4,5-, 2,4,6-trichlorophenols, and pentachlorophenol in 1 M NaOH solution, containing 1 mM of phenols, proceeds in the potential region of Pt oxide formation. The oxidation rate of phenols decreases with the increase in the number of chlorine atoms in the benzene ri...

Evaluation of Changes in Phenolic Compounds of Two Varieties of Olives during the Course of Maturation

Fats and oils are made of triglycerides. The fatty acids are the main constituents of triglycerides. There are minor components present in the oils and fats that are of great importance in human health, namely tocopherols and phenolic compounds that exhibit antioxidant activities. The concentrations of these compounds vary during ripening and maturation of olives. The object of the present stud...

LABORATORY INVESTIGATION OF PCDD/Fs AND DIOXIN-LIKE COMPOUNDS FORMATION DURING CHLOR-ALKALI PROCESS

Abstract We examined polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin, polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like compounds formation during brine electrolysis with pitch used as the binding agent of graphite electrode. Graphite electrode was used in the past as an industrial process of chlorine production. The level of PCDFs was up to 1,800,000pg/L (28,000pg-TEQ/L) in brine electrolysis with pitch...

Copper recovery from thickener overflow by electrocoagulation/flotation: optimization of response surface, modeling, and sludge study

The electrocoagulation/flotation process is a novel approach in mining industry that is implemented to return Cu metal to the production cycle, which improves copper recovery and reduces waste water. In this research work, the response surface methodology was applied to optimize the factors effective in Cu metal recovery and sludge volume produced from thickener overflow. To this end, the D-opt...
